New Vue Ushers New Era for Saturn

The Saturn brand has been receiving favorable attention of late. This is because General Motors has revitalized its lineup to make it more competitive. Partnering with German car manufacturer Opel, Saturn introduced a revamped lineup for the 2008 model year. The working relationship with Opel has given Saturn vehicles better looks and performance which can be expected from a German-designed vehicle.

The new lineup though has lost part that is no doubt intrinsic to Saturns of the past. Aside from outstanding customer relations, the division of Detroit carmaker General Motors is also known for its plastic body panels.

While the use of non-metal parts as panels of the Vue may have attracted the attention of many car buyers, it has also shunned many auto buyers. Like any radical technology, the plastic body panels were received with mix sentiments.

Some stirred clear of Saturn dealerships because of the fact that the brand’s vehicles are plastic paneled. But there are also those who love the advantages of plastic body panels like non-rusting. For the 2008 model year, the plastic body panels will be gone but the customer relation must stay.

New Saturn auto models will now be using metal body panels. The reason for this is that as part of General Motors’ restructuring plans, the assembly facility where Saturn’s plastic body panels were made will be closed down. Another reason is for safety. Although plastic body panels have distinct advantages, they are not as tough as metal parts which could adequately protect passengers in the unfortunate case of a crash.

The 2008 Saturn Vue then will not be equipped with plastic body panels but the European styling of the midsize crossover SUV is expected to endear it to auto buyers. The Vue is already Saturn’s best selling model and the redesigned of the crossover is expected to bring in more consumers to their dealerships.

Compared to the previous Vue, the new Vue is completely a new vehicle. If the previous Vue was not popular among auto buyers, it would not be surprising that General Motors will give the new Vue a new nameplate. But with a large buyer base already, the Vue nameplate is still used although the 2008 Vue is a completely new vehicle in terms of exterior and interior design, and performance.

On the outside, the Vue looks bulkier than its predecessor. With its corners given a more rounded edge, the new Vue looks bigger in comparison to its forerunner. The new exterior design of the Vue has already achieved widespread attention.

On the inside, the new Vue uses higher quality of materials compared to the 2007 Vue. Being designed in Europe, the interior styling of the new Vue comes as no surprise. It is also loaded with technologically advanced standard features as well as safety features.

Under the hood of the new Vue, the same reliable Saturn component can be found like Saturn header pipes, air filter, steering gear and the likes. For the 2008 model year, the standard engine of the Vue is a 2.4-liter Ecotec engine with variable valve timing for better fuel economy. This engine produces 169 hp. Two optional engines are also offered with the Vue. The first one is a 222 horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine and the second is a 257 hp 3.6-liter V6 engine.
